Sandy Ryerse

Author of fictional stories for early-middle grade readers

My Books

My Aunt Crystal series was a part of my heart and is now in writing for your enjoyment!

A story is in your heart long before it gets to paper.

Aunt Crystal &
The Vowel Towels

Life will sometimes take you down some hard paths full of twists and turns, curves and chaos. So hold on tight and feel the wind in your hair as you ride through!

I first wrote Aunt Crystal & The Vowel Towels back in the early 1990s. It wasn’t until I took a scary step of joining a local writer’s group in 2015 that I began to learn what it takes to move a story to a polished manuscript. Thank you Heather, Karen, Stacey and Tara for your tireless encouragement and knowledge!

Aunt Crystal & The Adverb Elevator

Life sometimes opens some amazing trails of opportunities. Don’t settle for the mundane route: grab on and brave the possibilities!

Aunt Crystal & The Adverb Elevator was birthed during a brainstorming truck ride on our way home from our cottage one Sunday in the summer of 2019. My husband, a retired police officer, came up with the basis of this story. Whodda thunk it? He’s not really the creative type. He’s a “just the facts, ma’am” type of guy, so it was pretty impressive that he came up with the idea of an elevator completely powered by adverbs.

Author Biography

About Sandy Ryerse

Sandy‘s mission is to create everyday characters tempted to live a mediocre life and place them in fun and awkward situations where they tackle life and relationships. Her characters are faced with opportunities that cause them to run away from mediocrity, and instead to soar toward a fantastic life. This is ultimately driven by her desire to promote every child‘s potential to explore this amazing world we've been dropped into so that we will grow in character, experience, and knowledge.

From Sandy

I loved books as a kid, but I couldn’t just read. I wanted to do it all!

I wanted to play football and hockey, and stay out late with my friends after dark.

I wanted to design the coolest bedroom in the world, and play board games all night long.

I wanted to discover the inside of houses; the big old ones, the modern funky ones, and the farmhouses because I was sure there was a treasure in each one.

I wanted to bake big cakes and live inside of craft magazines.

I wanted to ride dirt bikes and snowmobiles, and swing from a rope and land in the hayloft.

I wanted to ride cows and rummage through water-filled ditches.

And then I wanted to read and read without stopping with the same vigor I had with everything else.

But in those hours when I sat still long enough to read, my world stopped long enough to step into another world. After I closed the back cover, I couldn’t pick up another book for days. My mind needed time to say goodbye to the friends I had made in those pages, and to close the cover on the new world I had discovered. I’m actually still that kid today, chasing dreams and creating worlds that exist only in the confines of pages waiting to be turned by eager young readers.
